With these VISA tatus types, so called  Qualification of Activities (ACTIVITY STATUS), working is allowed only in the related specific fields.

4 Religious Activities -                 (SYU KYOU) For missionary of foreign religion for propagation. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
5 Journalist - (HOUDOU) Journaluists and cameraman of foreign nations. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
6 Highly Skilled Professional -  (KOUDO SENMON SHOKU) Highly skilled professionals by point system for specialists of Business Managers, Researchers, and Engineers.
For level No. 1 of the qualification, 5 years is granted to stay.   
Having stayed in Japan as the level No.1, of highly skilled professionals, eligibility is granted for the level No.2 of the qualification that has no limitation on the length of stay.		 Level No. 1 for 5 yrs.
For level No. 2, no limitation on the length.		 YES
7 Business Manager -                (KEIEI KANRI) Qualification for a manager of a company or for a managing director. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
8 Legal  / Accounting Services - (HOURITSU・KAIKEI) Lawyers, Certified Public Accountants, etc. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
9 Medical Services - (IRYOU) Medical doctors, Dentists, Nurses, etc. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
10 Researcher - (KEN KYUU) Researchres of governmental institutions and of private companies, excluding professors. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
11 Instructor - (KYO IKU) Language instructors at junior high schools and high schhools, excluding instructors at private language schools as they are to fall onto another status of "International Services" of below: 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES

 - International Services - (KOKUSAI GYOMU)		 This is a status of qualification for foreigners, engaged in the work that requires skills and knowledge in the fields of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Law, Economics, Sociology, and other humanities (Technology/Humanities Specialist), and the work that requires thinking and sensitivity based on foreign culture (International Services). 
This applies to Mechanical Engineers, Engineers, Marketing workers, Designers, Interpreters, language teachers at private companies, etc. 		 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
13 Intra-company Transeree - (KIGYONAI TENKIN) This is a status of qualification that can be obtained by transferees from foreign corporations that have their head office, branch office, or branch office in Japan. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
14 Nursing care - (KAIGO)  This is a status of qualification that can be obtained by foreigners who are qualified as care workers and who will be providing care or nursing care instruction. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
15 Entertainer - (KOU GYOU) This status of qualification that can be obtained by foreigners who come to Japan for performances, such as actors, singers, dancers, and professional athletes. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
16 Skilled Labor - (GINOU) This applies to foreigners who require skilled work in a special industrial field. This includes Chefs, sports instructors, Pilots, and Craftsmen who process precious metals, etc. Please note the distinction from "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services." and this "Skilled Labor". 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 3 mons. YES
17 Specified Skilled Worker(SSW) -                                                                                                                     (TOKUTEI GINOU) This is a status of qualification that can be obtained by those who pass a specified exams. in specific fields. The fields are 12 occupations namely:  1. Nursing Care, 2. Building Cleaning Management, 3. Machine Parts and Tooling/Industrial machinery/Electric, electronics and information industries & tooling industries, 4. Construction industry, 5. Shipbuilding and Ship Machinery Industry, 6. Automabile Repair and Maintenance, 7. Aviation Industry, 8. Accommodation Industry, 9. Agriculture, 10. Fishery and Aquaculture Industries, 11. Manufacture of Food and Beverages, 12. Food Service Industry.    Level No. 1 for 1 yr., 6 months, or 4 months. 
For level No.2, 3 yrs., 1yr., and 6 months.		 YES
18 Technical Intern Training - (GINOU JISSYU） A status of qualification for foreigners who will contribute to the development of their home country by working in Japan and acquiring "high skills." The Technical Intern Training Program is a system for international contribution, not a system for resolving labor shortages. Maximum of 3 years for No. 1 and No. 2 in combination. YES
ACTIVITY STATUS  - The ones that working is prohibited.   However, with No. 21, Student and No. 23, Depemdent, if you obtain a permission to engage in activities other than those permitted under the current status of qualification, you may be allowed to work for a part time worker on conditional basis up to 28 hours per week to the extent that the work does not hinder the activities of the given qualification of stay.   Examples of those allowed to work part time are the status of "Student" and "Dependent". 
19 Cultural Activities - 
 (BUNKA KATSUDOU)		 This is a status of qualification, engaged in academic activities that do not generate income, artistic activities, or engaged in specialized research or study of culture and arts unique to Japan.  This applies to researchers of Japanese culture, etc. 3 yrs., 1 yr, or 6 mons. NO
20 Temporary Visitor -                      (TANKI TAIZAI) This is a residence status obtained by tourists and conference participants. It is also called a tourist visa. 90days, 30days or 15days NO
21 Student - (RYUGAKU) This is obtained by students at universities, vocational schools, Japanese language schools, etc. (so-called international students). For the length to complete  study. POSSIBLE after receipt of working permission from ISA.
22 Trainee - (KENSYUU) This is a status of residence for foreign nationals who wish to participate in training programs conducted by public or private institutions and acquire skills, etc. 1yr, 6 mons., 3 mons. NO
23 Dependent -                     (KAZOKU TAIZAI) This applies to spouses and children of foreign residents. 5yrs.,

ACTIVITY STATUS - A status of qualification that working becomes possible depending on the designated content. This visa status has an effect of accommodating activities that do not fall any other existing defined activity statuses under this status, "designated activities."  Eg, "working holiday," "amateur sports player," and "job hunting".
However, please note that grant of working permission is rather conditional and process varies from one application to another and might result abortive in some cases.   Therefore, please be sure of kind of activity that you have when applying for this visa status.
24 Designated Activities -                                              (TOKUTEI KATSUDOU) There are wide range of people eligible, including servants for diplomats, working holiday makers, and candidates for care workers. In some cases, you may not allowed for working, while in other cases, you may be able to work within wide range of options. ("Specific Activity No. 46 / Japanese University Graduates" can work in a variety of fields).
Requirements: Graduate from a Japanese university and pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1.)		 for any length, not exceeding 5 yrs. YES, depending upon type of grant given.
RESIDENCY STATUS
A status of qualification for its being rest on one's personal status so called Residency Qualification (RESIDENCY STATUS) with no restrictions on employment.   Just like Japanese people, this status of residence allows you to work in any job without restrictions.

25 Permanent Resident　-                                           　（EIJYU SYA) This is a status of residence that can be obtained by foreigners who have been granted permanent residence permission. The conditions for obtaining this status are as follows:
- Good behavior (obeying the law and living a life that is not criticized by society)
- Sufficient assets or skills to live (including the assets and skills of your spouse)
- Recognized as being in the interest of Japan
As a rule, you must have resided in Japan for more than 10 years. If you have unpaid taxes or insurance premiums, your application is more likely to be denied.		 No limmitation YES
26 Spouse or Child of Japanese National -   (NIHONJIN NO HAIGUUSYA) This applies to spouses, biological children, and special adopted children of Japanese nationals. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 6 mons YES
27 Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident - (EIJYUUSYA NO HAIGUUSYA) This applies to spouses of permanent residents and special permanent residents, and biological children born in Japan who continue to reside there. 5 yrs., 3 yrs., 1 yr., 6 mons YES
28 Long-Term Resident - (TEIJYUSYA) This applies to third-generation Japanese, Japanese nationals remaining in China, and refugees resettled in third countries. Any length, not exceeding 5 yrs. YES
